How to care for gold jewelry

Gold does not oxidize, but jewelry dulls over time and picks up fine scratches. A few simple habits help keep its original look.
- Take jewelry off before cleaning, washing dishes, sports and swimming in a pool: chlorine and household chemicals harm metal and stones.
- Store each piece separately, in a soft pouch or box, so they do not scratch each other.
- It is better to fasten chains before storing them so they do not tangle.
- Apply perfume and cream before you put jewelry on.
How to clean at home
Soak the piece in warm water with a little mild soap, gently clean it with a soft brush, rinse and wipe with a dry cloth. For jewelry with pearls, turquoise and other delicate stones, it is better to see a jeweler.
When you need a craftsman
If a stone has come loose, a chain has bent or a clasp has broken, do not repair the piece yourself: that is a job for a jewelry workshop.
